It can be characterized as a treatment for internal and external physical symptoms, in many cases caused by diseases. It involves the mechanical stimulation of the tissues. The massage has direct and indirect effects on the body. It consists of a number of grips, moves and touches (stroking, massaging, compressing, tapping, using vibrations, spreading, rolling), the aim of which is not only to provide treatment, but to prevent many diseases.
Classic massage is increasingly being enriched with elements of segmental massage, massage of connective tissue and periosteum, manual therapy, acupuncture or physiotherapy, in order to adapt the actions of a massage therapist to the patient’s needs.
It includes a general massage (of the whole body) and partial massage (of individual parts of the body).
